How to Start your Dream Business for Under $100 Part 1

Topic for the Week of May 9th to the 13th

This week we will be discussing the gathering of free resources to be used in the creation of our business. The two resources we will be specifically talking about are a public library card and small business centers. A public library card is a tremendous resource as it gives us free access to books, magazine articles, newspapers, databases, etc. which contain information we can use for research, marketing, and problem solving.

Small business centers are amazing as well since they provide us a resource we can use for direct feedback. An example of the power of these centers is entrepreneurs can write a business plan and present it to one of the business center representative and get real time feedback. This helps us bring reality to our ideas and approach our business with logic over emotion.

Join me on Wednesday where I will be addressing these two resources in more detail.

Spark of Inspiration

At the age of 24 and owner of two successful businesses I have been asked this question many time of how did I do it? Where did my inspiration come from? Did I always dream of becoming a business owner?

In simple truth No; it was not one of my dreams as when I was growing up all I wanted was what every Trekkie wanted to explore space and boldly go where no one has gone before. I wanted to be Capt. Picard fly through space defeat the dreaded Borg and be the last hope for humanities salvation during times of crisis.
However, just like many people’s child hood dreams reality has a way of catching up slapping us in the face and telling us that our fantasies are just that fantasies.

In 2005 I had the opportunity to attend the Walt Disney World College Program where I was a SlideOp at Typhoon Lagoon. It was a crummy job as it was mindless in poor conditions and required me to push people down the slide regardless of weight, what they were wearing, or how they smelled. However, outside of work was another experience all together and in my opinion was the turning point of my life.

Outside of work was an environment where you had opportunities to meet young adults around the nation, speak with successful Disney professional at the top of their field, and only rely on yourself. I promised myself that I would not pass up an opportunity like this and taking a look back I can proudly say I accomplish everything I could in an eight month period. On top of everything I accomplished I walked away with some valuable lessons; including, one that will stick with me forever; that one person’s ideal can change the way we think, we live, and interact for the better.

Yet, having an idea is not enough as an idea will fall apart at the first signs of diversity. We must have something in our hearts that says, “We Can Do It.” That no matter what happens, no matter how much we want to quit, or how bad our situation is we won’t give up.

For me that something came from the Movie Meet the Robinsons.

At the end Disney’s summed it up in one powerful quote:

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths

Keep Moving Forward.

To me it’s that simple; to me as long as I keep moving forward there is nothing I can’t overcome.

In closing, I leave these comments to my readers that no matter how big or small your idea might be, if you believe you can do it you can. Because, as long as you keeping moving forward and don’t ever let the situation no matter how bad get you down, you will be successful.
